Live What You Know

The survival of humanity will depend on our ecological literacy, on our ability to understand the basic principles of ecology and to live accordingly.

Fritjof Capra wrote these words in The Web of Life, published in 1996 after two decades studying how living systems organize themselves into resilient, interconnected wholes. He had spent his career translating the discoveries of ecology and systems theory into a new way of seeing the world, and he grew concerned that scientific understanding alone would not be enough to change how people lived. For Capra, ecological literacy meant something more demanding than expertise: it meant closing the distance between what people know to be true and how they actually act. That gap between knowledge and conduct is where integrity is won or lost, then and now.
