About Morning Meditation

Morning Meditation is one email each morning: a quote from one of the world's great wisdom traditions, the story of who said it and why, and a single question to write about before the day begins. It arrives at the time you choose, in your own timezone, and it's free.

The meditations draw from five traditions — Stoicism, Eastern Wisdom, Mystical Traditions, Philosophy & Existential Thought, and Literary & Modern Voices — through a hand-curated library of nearly three hundred sources, from Marcus Aurelius and the Dhammapada to Rumi, Rilke, and Mary Oliver. Subscribers pick the traditions they want; every meditation ever sent stays free to read.

How the meditations are made

Each day's meditations are generated with Claude, Anthropic's AI model, working from that curated source library — and, for Stoicism and Eastern Wisdom, from a set of each tradition's core principles, so those traditions teach their central ideas one morning at a time. The reflections are modeled on the morning journaling practice of the Stoics: a question you can answer before the day happens, not a review of one that hasn't. Authors, themes, and principles rotate so mornings don't repeat.

Who's behind it

Morning Meditation is built and run by John Nardone as an independent project. It's free and ad-free. If it has become part of your mornings, you can support it — or just say hello.
