Find The Light In Darkness

Truly, it is in darkness that one finds the light, so when we are in sorrow, then this light is nearest of all to us.

Eckhart was a Dominican friar and mystic preaching in Germany in the early 1300s, often to ordinary laypeople and nuns rather than scholars. He spent his life teaching that God is found not through external ritual but through the soul's own depths, even as Church authorities grew suspicious of his ideas. Late in life he faced formal charges of heresy, a trial that cost him his reputation and, some say, his health. His words on sorrow and light were not abstract theology but lived experience, spoken by a man who kept preaching even as his own ground shifted beneath him.

Reflection

Eckhart taught that darkness can carry us closer to what matters most. What difficulty am I facing right now that might be pointing me toward something good?
