Morning Meditation

July 04, 2026

Just to be is a blessing. Just to live is holy.

— Abraham Joshua Heschel, God in Search of Man

Heschel wrote this during the mid-twentieth century, when industrial modernity was accelerating and the Holocaust had recently destroyed the world he came from. He was a refugee who had lost family members and watched an entire civilization collapse. He was insisting, against that backdrop of mass death and mechanization, that the sheer fact of being alive in a body carries sacred weight — not because of what you produce or achieve, but because existence itself is a gift.

Reflection

Many people treat their body as a tool they manage rather than a life they inhabit. What is one physical sensation you noticed this morning, and did you treat it as information worth your attention?
