Stay With The Problem

It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer.

Einstein made this remark when asked to explain his own genius, insisting that raw brainpower was not the source of his success. He spent nearly a decade wrestling with the mathematics of general relativity, discarding failed versions of his field equations again and again before finally arriving at the correct ones in 1915. He never claimed to think faster than his colleagues, only that he refused to walk away from a problem before it was solved. His words are a reminder that persistence, sustained plainly and stubbornly, often accomplishes what cleverness alone cannot.
