Wait For The Gift
We do not obtain the most precious gifts by going in search of them but by waiting for them.
Simone Weil wrote this in the early 1940s, during the last years of her life, as she moved deeper into a solitary and demanding spiritual practice while Europe was consumed by war. She had left the safety of steady work and comfort more than once, choosing instead a life of deliberate simplicity so she could stay open to what she called grace. For Weil, waiting was not passive idleness but an active, disciplined stillness — the opposite of grasping. She saw this stillness as the only posture in which the deepest truths could actually reach a person.
Reflection
Weil believed the most precious gifts arrive through patient waiting rather than active pursuit. What have I already received simply by waiting instead of chasing it?
