The Light That Finds You

From every human being there rises a light that reaches straight to heaven. And when two souls that are destined to be together find each other, their streams of light flow together, and a single brighter light goes forth from their united being.

The Baal Shem Tov, Rabbi Israel ben Eliezer, taught this among the poor and often unlettered Jewish villages of eighteenth-century Podolia, where he insisted that closeness to God did not belong only to scholars but to every soul willing to feel joy and connection. He founded the Hasidic movement on the idea that the divine runs through ordinary life and ordinary people, not just through books and study halls. This teaching on light reframes every meaningful bond as something larger than coincidence, a joining that was already written into the world. It still matters today because it asks us to treat our closest relationships as part of something bigger than convenience or habit.
