Julian of Norwich was an English anchoress who received her visions in 1373 during a severe illness that nearly killed her, in a Norwich ravaged by repeated waves of plague and by the long grind of the Hundred Years' War. In this passage she recalls Christ's own words to her, spoken not as a promise of safety but as a promise of endurance.
