What doth it profit thee to enter into deep discussion concerning the Holy Trinity, if thou lack humility?

— Thomas à Kempis, The Imitation of Christ

Thomas à Kempis wrote this in the early fifteenth century, living as an Augustinian monk in the Netherlands during a period of intense theological debate and Church corruption. He was watching scholars argue endlessly about doctrine while ordinary people starved for something real to hold onto in their daily lives. His point was sharp and practical: knowing beautiful things about God means nothing if you are proud and unkind. The joy he points toward is not the excitement of ideas but the quiet satisfaction of actually becoming a better person, which he believed was available to anyone willing to start small and stay humble.

Reflection

Most of us spend more time learning about good things than doing them. What is one specific habit or practice you already know is good for you that you keep putting off?
