We must not say that the work of philosophy is one thing and the work of life another.

Musonius Rufus taught this in Rome during the first century, a time when Stoic philosophers were regularly exiled or executed for their ideas. He was himself banished twice by Roman emperors, yet he kept teaching, kept showing up, kept living exactly what he said. This line is not about theory. It is about trusting that the way you think and the way you act have to be the same thing, and that closing the gap between them is not optional — it is the whole project.

Reflection

Many people trust a set of values in their head but act differently when a real decision arrives. Where in your life right now are your stated values and your daily choices actually out of sync?
