Look Inward To Awaken

Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.

Jung wrote this line to a correspondent seeking guidance during the years when he was deep in what he later called his confrontation with the unconscious, a long stretch of deliberately sitting with his own dreams and inner images instead of leaning on theory or other people's answers. That practice of turning attention inward eventually became the foundation for everything he later published, including Memories, Dreams, Reflections. The line reflects his lifelong conviction that real psychological insight comes from attending to what is already stirring inside a person, not from searching outward for it. For anyone starting the day reaching first for a phone or someone else's opinion, it's a reminder that the quietest source of direction is usually the one being skipped.

Reflection

Jung insisted that real clarity begins with attention turned inward instead of outward searching. Where today will I choose to listen to myself instead of asking others first?
