When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.
Frankl wrote this while processing his experiences as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps, including Auschwitz. He had lost nearly everything — his wife, his family, his manuscript, his freedom. What he observed, in himself and in others, was that suffering does not automatically break a person or transform them. The difference came down to whether a person could find any meaning in what they were enduring, and that question remains just as direct today when you are stuck in something you cannot fix or escape.
Reflection
Think about a situation in your life right now that you cannot change. What is one thing about yourself that situation is asking you to change?
