What's Left When You Stop Looking
Stillness is not something you have to find. It's what's left when you stop looking.
Jeff Foster trained as an astrophysicist at Cambridge before a crisis of meaning pulled him away from academia and into years of searching for enlightenment. He tried meditation retreats, strict disciplines, and countless spiritual techniques, convinced that peace was something to be earned through enough effort or enough solitude. The Deepest Acceptance grew out of the moment he stopped that search and noticed the stillness had been present the whole time, underneath the striving. It's a useful idea for a quiet morning like this one, when trying to do stillness correctly can become its own kind of noise.
Reflection
Foster says stillness is what remains when searching ends. What am I still trying to find this morning?
