Awakening Isn't The Finish Line

A true awakening needs to be lived, integrated, and, most importantly, all of what is false within us needs to be seen through, or the ego will simply co-opt the experience of awakening and use it for its own survival and enhancement.

Adyashanti wrote The End of Your World after two decades of teaching students who had experienced sudden, powerful glimpses of awakening but stalled there, mistaking the flash of insight for lasting freedom. He noticed how quickly the ego could absorb a genuine spiritual opening and turn it into another identity to defend rather than a doorway to keep walking through. This passage is his corrective: awakening is not a single event to collect but a process that has to be lived out, tested, and re-integrated over time. The same holds for any real change in a life—the insight is only the start; the patient, unglamorous work of living it out is what makes it real.
