Don't Laugh Too Soon

I don't laugh at people anymore when they say they've seen UFOs. I've seen one myself!

In October 1969, while waiting outside before a Lions Club meeting in Leary, Georgia, Carter watched a strange glowing light move across the sky and change colors before it vanished. He was so struck by it that he later filed a formal report with the International UFO Bureau, an unusual act for a Naval Academy graduate trained in nuclear engineering under the exacting Admiral Rickover. Years later, running for president, he brought it up himself rather than hide it, disarming reporters with plain honesty instead of certainty. It is a small, human reminder that a rigorous mind and a sense of wonder are not opposites.

Reflection

Carter refused to dismiss something he could not fully explain. What is one thing today I can approach with curiosity instead of certainty?
