Love Without Conditions

Love everyone, serve everyone, remember God, and tell the truth.

Neem Karoli Baba, known to his devotees as Maharaj-ji, was a Hindu guru who lived simply at his ashram in Kainchi Dham in the Himalayan foothills, feeding and welcoming rich and poor, high caste and outcast alike at the same table. Westerners like Ram Dass came to him in the 1960s seeking wisdom and found instead this plain instruction, repeated so often it became his signature teaching. The line joins love to action: love is not a private feeling but something proven in service, especially service to those easy to overlook or dismiss. In the Eastern wisdom tradition, compassion and lovingkindness are not abstract sentiments but practices — wishing all beings free of suffering, and then acting on that wish, starting with whoever is hardest to include, sometimes oneself. This teaching strips the path down to something anyone can attempt before breakfast.

Reflection

Neem Karoli Baba taught that love and service cannot be separated. Who is one person I find difficult to love that I could quietly serve today?
