Morning Meditation

June 16, 2026

I am in every religion as the thread through a string of pearls.

— Mirabai, *Mira Bhajans*

Mirabai wrote this in 16th-century Rajasthan, at a time when she had abandoned her royal household and caste obligations to wander and sing devotional songs to Krishna. She was considered scandalous by her family and community for rejecting the social boundaries that defined her world. In that context, this line was a direct claim that the divine does not belong to any one group or form — it runs through all of them. That idea lands differently now, when people increasingly organize their lives around categories that separate rather than connect.

Reflection

Mirabai saw the same thread running through every tradition she encountered. Is there a person in your life whose beliefs differ from yours, and what do you actually share?
