Morning Meditation

July 02, 2026

It is not possible to live well today unless you treat it as your last day." — Musonius Rufus, Lectures

Musonius Rufus was a Roman Stoic philosopher teaching in the first century CE, working under emperors who exiled him twice for speaking plainly about how power should be used. He said this not as a dramatic gesture toward death, but as a practical instruction for his students: stop deferring your best judgment and clearest choices to some future version of yourself. The idea cuts through a very common habit — treating today as a rehearsal — and asks you to bring your full discernment to the actual decisions in front of you right now.

Reflection

Think about a specific decision you have been putting off this week. What would you do differently today if you knew there was no tomorrow to reconsider it?
