Meet This Morning Fresh
Experience is always fresh and new. It is only thought that makes it seem stale, old and familiar.
Rupert Spira is a contemporary teacher of non-duality whose book The Nature of Consciousness distills decades of exploring the relationship between awareness and experience, shaped in part by his years studying under Francis Lucille. He often points out that the staleness we feel in daily life is not a property of experience itself but something thought adds, by comparing this moment to all the moments that came before it. Spira returns again and again to the simple observation that awareness itself never ages, never tires, and never carries yesterday's residue into today. That is why dawn, before the mind has had a chance to narrate the day, offers such a direct window into what he is pointing at.
Reflection
Spira points to the possibility of meeting each moment without the weight of memory. What can I look at this morning as if seeing it for the first time?
