One Link Among Many

We are all links in the chain of humanity.

César Chávez spoke these words as he organized farmworkers into the United Farm Workers, building a movement that depended on grape pickers, urban consumers, clergy, and students all pulling together across California and beyond. He knew that a boycott only worked if a shopper in Chicago felt bound to a worker in Delano they would never meet. This idea ran through his organizing philosophy: no single person's dignity could be separated from the dignity of the whole community. Today it is a reminder that the people we never see are still tied to the choices we make.

Reflection

Chávez believed no one stands alone in the struggle for dignity. Who am I connected to today that I can support?
