All life is yoga." — Sri Aurobindo, The Synthesis of Yoga

Sri Aurobindo wrote this during a period of intense inner work at the Pondicherry ashram in the early twentieth century, after leaving behind a political career in the Indian independence movement. He was arguing against the idea that spiritual life requires withdrawal from ordinary activity — that cooking, working, talking with a friend, even feeling genuinely happy could all be acts of participation in something larger. For him, joy and beauty were not rewards for getting the spiritual life right but were evidence that the divine was already moving through ordinary experience. That framing is useful today because it means you do not have to manufacture a special state to begin — you can start with whatever is in front of you right now.

Reflection

Think about a specific activity this week that brought you unexpected satisfaction. Did you treat that moment as meaningful, or did you move past it quickly?
